It’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Here at Horn Law Firm, we take distracted driving very seriously. We have seen countless cases involving motorist injury, and death, that was 100% preventable. The Texas Department of Transportation recently released statistics from 2013 showing that 1 in 5 accidents in their state were caused by distracted driving, and contributed to nearly 500 deaths last year.  A more sobering fact from distraction.gov states that 5 seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. At 55 mph you will travel the length of a football field during that time.  During National Distracted Driving Awareness Month we should all take the time to learn more about the facts and risks involved with distracted driving, and commit to driving with a higher sense of responsibility. We at Horn Law ask you to commit to three things this month:

  1. Keep your phone off, and put somewhere out of reach, like the glove box
  2. Make driving your primary activity – don’t try and eat, or set your GPS while driving.
  3. Talk to someone you know who has the habit of distracted driving. Share one of links at the bottom of the page and let them know it’s their responsibility to drive safely.
  4. Horn Law is giving out “Drive By Example” Car Air Fresheners. This is a neat reminder to drive alert, buckled, and cautious.  Drop by our Independence office for your DBE car air freshener.

Remember: When you are driving you aren’t just responsible for you and the people you are driving. You are responsible to drive safely for everyone you meet on the road. Remember, Drive By Example. Eyes on road. Hands on Wheel.
