Here I am with my friend and neighbor, Larry Vilmer. Even though Larry was diagnosed with ALS last year, and the disease progression has occurred, his good nature, kindness, and high spirits have been so encouraging to many in the Kansas City community that are raising funds to help find a cure for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known commonly as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Not deterred by his progressive decline in health, which has effected Larry’s speech and his ability to walk and use his hands, Larry is dedicating his life to be part of the ALS solution. Not only has he been very active in supporting the work of our local Kansas City ALS chapter, Larry has also made arrangements after his death to donate his brain and spinal cord tissues to ALS research.
In 2017, in support of the annual ALS walk, Larry helped raise $11,000. For this year’s walk, to be held on October 6th at Kaufmann Stadium, Larry has set a higher goal of $15,000! I am asking my FB friends to consider making a donation to help Larry bust through the $15,000 mark.

A famous person once said that there are two types of people- invalids and nurses. There will be times in our lives when we need help and times when we are blessed to provide help.
