Does Missouri Need a Law Outlawing Distracted Driving?

The state of Missouri is in the minority when it comes to a ban on texting and driving. In fact, it is one of only six states that have not put some type of law in place. Many lawmakers and people on the road wonder if this lack of action has led to an increase in distracted driving accidents in the state and if lawmakers need to take action to crack down harder on this problem that is only growing throughout the nation. Distracted Driving: A Serious Issue in School Zones

In the state of Kansas (along with the majority of other states in the U.S.), officers have the ability to deter distracted drivers by issuing citations to anyone who is texting or reading emails while behind the wheel. However, police officers in Missouri do not have the same ability to do this. To date, Missouri doesn’t have laws in place that make the act of texting and driving illegal for everyone on the road. Common Causes of Head-On Collisions

Head on collisions take place when two vehicles that are traveling opposite directions run into each other. These types of auto accidents are some of the most dangerous due to the force of the impact, which is doubled because of the traveling speed of each vehicle. Gladstone, MO – Dangers and Risks of Roadway Accidents

According to information from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the most dangerous intersection in the city of Gladstone is located at 72nd Street and MO 1. In fact, between the dates of 2010 and 2016, this intersection saw 41 accidents and 11 injuries. While there were no fatalities here, these numbers are still shockingly high, compared to other busy intersections in the city. (more…)


Distracted Driving Liability

This article discusses the primary difference between a typical car accident case and a car accident caused by distracted driving. Before discussing the difference, it is helpful to define what I mean by “distracted driving”. Generally speaking, distracted driving is engaging in any activity not necessary for the operation of the motor vehicle that causes a driver to take their eyes off the road for an extended moment of time (at least 2 seconds).   (more…)
